NDIS Funding Changes: Focusing on Evidence‑Based Decision Making

NDIS Funding Changes Recently

The NDIS funding changes introduced in May 2025 have reshaped the way participants access their funding. Rather than receiving their full budget upfront, funding is now released in quarterly blocks. While this aims to promote accountability and financial clarity, it also introduces new challenges for participants and providers alike.

At Aligned Community Care, we’ve developed a data-driven, tech-enabled system to support participants through these changes—ensuring you’re always equipped with the evidence you need at every stage of your plan.

Understanding the New NDIS Funding Changes

From May 19, 2025, the NDIS has started releasing most funding in three-month intervals rather than providing the full year’s budget at once. Key updates include:

  • Quarterly funding periods: Most supports are now released every three months.
  • Monthly release for some Home & Living supports: For example, SIL funding may follow a monthly schedule.
  • One-off items: Some supports, like Assistive Technology, may still be released in full if marked urgent or essential.

Important: The total amount of funding remains the same—only the release schedule has changed.

Why the Change?

The NDIS has made these changes to:

  • Improve budget clarity for participants
  • Reduce overspending or underuse of funds
  • Strengthen financial accountability
  • Encourage more consistent, sustainable support over time

While the goals are positive, this new system means participants must keep accurate records and justify ongoing funding every few months.

The Challenges of Quarterly Funding

This shift introduces some potential hurdles:

  • Increased admin workload for participants, families, and support coordinators
  • Risk of funding gaps if documentation is not provided in time
  • Need for timely reporting to avoid disruptions in support

This is why having strong, clear data has never been more important.
